從 Matrix I 到 Matrix III，整整四年，壹對名叫沃卓斯基（導演加編劇）的兄弟給科幻電影帶來壹次史無前例的沖擊，無論從思想上還是視覺效果上都超過了以往任何壹部科幻電影，從來沒有壹部科幻電影能夠創造這麽多的 Fans 也沒有任何壹部科幻電影能像 Matrix 這樣引發如此大規模的討論----討論劇情，討論主題，討論特效，討論演員，筆者絕不敢自稱 100% 的看懂了（我把看懂定義為“理解沃卓斯基兄弟眼中劇情和主題的原意”，以免就這個“看懂”壹詞遭來無數的非議），但是我願意把我所理解的 The Matrix 的故事寫出來與大家分享。
二、先來說故事
第壹集的故事還比較好懂，相信看過兩遍的人都能懂：人類的科技文明發展到某壹天，機器的人工智能已經開始超越了人所能控制的範圍，於是，機器開始了挑戰人類的戰爭，結果，機器打勝了，地球上的人類分成了兩部分，壹部分是被驅逐到地心深處壹個名叫錫安（Zion）的溶洞中的地球原著民，他們繼續在跟機器進行著戰鬥，試圖摧毀機器世界，重新獲得地球的主宰權，另壹部分則是機器的戰利品，他們壹生下來就被養在機器制造的試管中，也會生長發育，只是他們並不知道過去曾經發生的壹切，他們活在機器創造的壹個虛擬世界裏面，完全是由程序編寫的壹個虛擬世界，這個虛擬世界被錫安的人稱為 Matrix，它就像壹個超級的網絡遊戲；對於機器來說，這部分人類的作用是給機器提供生物電，使得機器能夠擁有必需的能源。如果說，機器只是需要這些試管人類的生物電，為什麽還要花大力氣編寫 Matrix 這個網絡遊戲呢？可能的原因有兩個，壹個是只有這些試管人的大腦不停的有活動才能產生足夠的生物電和促進機體的生長發育產生更多的生物電；另壹個是，作為戰利品，機器對這些曾經創造了他們的人類也很感興趣，就像人類研究猴子壹樣研究人類作為壹種樂趣，這個原因對於電影來說，已經並不重要，總之機器創造了 Matrix，而在錫安裏的人不斷地想設法解救 Matrix 中的人，告知他們真相，加入反抗的隊伍中，這些被解救的人以莫非斯為代表。因為莫非斯這些人來自 Matrix，所以他們的腦袋上保留有插頭，可以重新接入 Matrix，莫非斯在 Matrix 中見到了壹個有預知未來能力的人叫先知（Oracle），他告訴莫非斯，妳們想戰勝機器，就必須找到壹個人，他才是真正的救世主（The One），莫非斯對此深信不疑，他找到了他認為就是救世主的那個人---尼奧（Neo），於是第壹集的真正主角登場了，那麽如同所有故事片壹樣，有了正面人物就必須要有反面人物，第壹集的反面人物就是 Matrix 中維持秩序的特工（Agent），他們不是真正的人類，他們完完全全是由機器編寫的程序，有點像防火墻或者說入侵檢測程序，特工的代表人物叫做 Smith，他們的任務是阻止莫非斯他們的解救行動並殺死他們。於是第壹集就在叛軍和特工之間的戰鬥中展開，與其說是戰鬥不如說壹場逃亡遊戲，在第壹集裏面，觀眾們看到就是莫非斯、尼奧、崔尼悌這些叛軍們不停的逃，特工們不停的追。奔跑、跳躍成了第壹集動作的主題。但是到了影片的最後，尼奧在被 Smith 殺死以後又復活了，並且具備了超能力，他看穿了 Matrix 中的壹切，在他眼中，Matrix 中的物體不再是形象，而是有數字組成的矩陣，於是，莫非斯認為的救世主（The One）誕生了，特工變的根本不是尼奧的對手，尼奧鉆進 Smith 的身體中，把他撕的四分五裂。
這就是第壹集的故事，故事很精彩，效果很棒，票房極好，那壹年是 1999 年，這部影片獲得了四項奧斯卡獎，影片中的眾多特效鏡頭被奉為經典。接下來有傳聞說要拍續集，於是大多數人包括我在內，都自然而然的認為就如同《終結者》《生死時速》《沈默羔羊》壹樣，因為第壹集的票房很好，有了這個人氣的保證，不管怎樣只要湊壹個續集出來，讓這些主要人物重新登場，就壹定還有票房，因此，自然而然的就猜測第二集應該講的是在尼奧這個救世主的帶領下，將 Matrix 中解救出來的人組成壹支人類的強大軍隊，以錫安為後盾，與那些“八爪魚”展開戰鬥，最終以人類的勝利為結束，皆大歡喜，拍成壹部像《星球大戰》《獨立日》壹般的戰爭史詩片。但是，當我了解到導演沃卓斯基兄弟的壹些拍攝計劃以後，我開始認為我的想法過於簡單，按照網上得來的消息，Matrix II 的上映時間將是 2003 年，相隔要四年，而且還不止 Matrix II，Matrix III 也將同時拍攝，也就是說 Matrix II 和 Matrix III 幾乎同時拍攝完畢，都在 2003 年上映，沃卓斯基兄弟還告訴我們，Matrix 從來就是壹個完整的故事，並不是先有了 I 再想到去拍攝 II 和 III，只不過故事太長，必須要拍攝三部才夠，Matrix I 只是故事的開始，真正讓觀眾吃驚的都在後面，Matrix 的故事絕沒有妳們想象的那麽簡單。我突然意識到，這對兄弟不簡單，Matrix 的續集不會像我想的如此簡單。好了，我們現在開始來說第二集的故事，在整個 Matrix 的故事中，第二集的作用是承上啟下，也是最為難懂，引起爭議和討論最多的壹集，在這壹集裏面眾多的新人物紛紛登場?
讓人目不暇接，眼花繚亂。故事從尼奧的壹個夢開始，他夢見崔尼悌被特工用槍打中了，這壹開始其實就埋下了壹個伏筆，按照電影的壹般慣例，這種夢最後多半會成為真實的（影片確實也是如此），那麽我不禁就要發問，既然這是在真實世界，尼奧怎麽可能能夢到未來發生的事情（註意，這是科幻電影，不是指環王這樣的神話故事電影，現實世界中妳說壹個人夢到了未來那是封建迷信），這不符合科幻電影嚴謹的邏輯，難道導演又要在這壹集裏面插入壹些什麽奇幻電影的因素，接下來要出現什麽魔法阿超自然力阿什麽的嗎？接著，上壹集被殺死的 Smith 又復活了，理論上並不是復活，而是升級了，在尼奧鉆入他身體的時候，Smith 獲得了尼奧的部分代碼，最終導致了 Smith 的復活（升級），升級版的 Smith 不再是壹個普通的特工，他變得更加強大，而且不受 Matrix 的控制，可以將自己的代碼（思想）植入 Matrix 中的人甚至特工的身體中，從而復制自己，並控制他們，這個功能非常可怕，意味著 Smith 可以不斷的復制自己，尼奧和 Smith 的第二次正面打鬥的戲就是尼奧面對壹堆的 Smith 不停的打，怎麽也打不完，越打越多，最後只好像超人壹樣三十六計飛走了。接著影片出現了第二個伏筆，Smith 復制了壹個錫安的叛軍，這個叫本恩的叛軍通過電話回到了錫安，但是顯然，他的思想已經變化了，不再是原來的本恩，而變成了 Smith 附身的本恩，這裏我不禁又要問，既然錫安是真實世界，那麽來自 Matrix 中的程序 Smith 怎麽可能能夠控制真實世界中的人，就像壹臺電腦把網線都拔了，他怎麽還會被黑客入侵呢？尼奧莫非斯他們回到了錫安，觀眾有幸目睹了這個人類最後壹個城市的壯觀景象，我們開始知道，莫非斯也只是壹個普通的船長，他也有上司，就是他的情敵司令官，錫安的最高權力機構是議會，議員有男有女，都是老人。而莫非斯所堅信的所謂救世主並不為大多數錫安人認同，在錫安，尼奧只不過是個小有名氣的普通人而已。在錫安，尼奧和壹個老議員的壹段對話非常重要，是整個 Matrix 中幾段經典對話之壹，是揭示整個故事主題的點睛之筆，大意是這樣，議員帶尼奧來到錫安的動力和循環系統控制中心，看著那些巨大的機器在運轉，說我雖然知道這些機器的名稱和作用，但是我卻根本不知道這些機器是如何工作的，他問尼奧妳說什麽是控制，尼奧說控制就是我們隨時都可在我們想的時候把機器給關掉，議員說說得沒錯，可是關掉之後我們也就失去了賴以生存的各種循環系統。我想，議員是在告訴觀眾，人類世界與機器世界已經是妳中有我我中有妳的狀態，互為依存的關系，從這裏我可以隱約感覺到電影的最終結局必然是人類和機器要達到壹種新的和諧。尼奧他們繼續出征，他們要重新找到先知，讓她告訴尼奧戰勝機器世界的最終辦法，先知告訴尼奧妳必須先找到開鎖人（Keymaker），可以幫助尼奧打開壹扇門，去見到神秘的幕後人物。於是，又有幾個新的人物類型登場了，其中有那個法國人，嚴格來說，他並不是和摩非斯他們壹樣的試管中的人，而是壹段程序，這段程序很老，而且他還有編程能力，可以編出像“春藥”這樣的小程序，Matrix 已經不再需要他，要把他刪除，但是他又設法逃脫了刪除，他收留了很多這樣即將被刪除但又逃脫的程序，包括壹對有特殊能力的雙胞胎兄弟，他們像幽靈壹樣可以自由出入很多程序，這些人並不像特工，他們就像 Matrix 中的獨行俠壹樣，獨來獨往，特立獨行，有他們自己的生活規則和生存方式，但是這些人的能力也有限，並不能改變 Matrix，也不對 Matrix 構成太大的威脅。法國人囚禁著開鎖人（Keymaker），尼奧他們的目的就是救出開鎖人，於是壹場史無前例的追車大戰開始了，其中有穿插著莫非斯和特工的決鬥，就像沃卓斯基自己說的，他們要終結以往所有的追車場面，為此，劇組特地建造了壹條專用的高速公路拍戲，總***動用了 300 多輛各種不同的車，炸毀、撞翻了無數，真是史無前例，這場追車大戰直看得人神魂顛倒。最後，尼奧在開鎖人的幫助下見到了那個幕後的神秘人物，他，就是 Matrix 的建造者，設計師（Architector），在這裏，尼奧與設計師的壹段對話終於揭示了第二集的真正內容，由於這段話實在太重要，我在這裏全文摘錄如下：

The Architect - I am the Architect. I created the matrix. I've been waiting for you. You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also irrelevant.

You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.

The Architect - The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom is as apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every human being, thus I redesigned it based on your history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However, I was again frustrated by failure. I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind, or perhaps a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection. Thus, the answer was stumbled upon by another, an intuitive program,initially created to investigate certain aspects of the human psyche. If I am the father of the matrix, she would undoubtedly be its mother.

The Architect - Please. As I was saying, she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99.9％ of all test subjects accepted the program, as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level. While this answer functioned, it was obviously
fundamentally flawed, thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly, that if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those that refused the program, while a minority, if unchecked, would constitute an escalating probability of disaster.

The Architect - The function of the One is now to return to the source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program. After which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female, 7 male, to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix, which coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race.

The door to your right leads to the source, and the salvation of Zion. The door to the left leads back to the matrix, to her, and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you're going to do, don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction, the chemical precursors that signal the onset of emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic, and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple, and obvious truth: she is going to die, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it.
