“少林功夫好嘢”的原版就是周星馳所創，但是其旋律是借鑒了The Mamas and the Papas的代表作《California Dreaming》（加州之夢）。
“少林功夫好嘢”是由周星馳飾演的五師兄與黃壹飛飾演的大師兄壹起在酒吧所演唱的，當時周星馳還出現了笑場，但歌曲並未有明確的出處，但是較為普遍的說法就是借鑒了California Dreaming的旋律。
《California Dreaming》（加州之夢）是美國民謠組合The Mamas & The Papas（媽媽爸爸樂隊）在1966年的熱門單曲，出自他們的經典專輯《如果妳能相信妳的耳朵和眼睛》（If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears）。
