below / beneath / under
這三個介詞都可以表示位置“在…下面”，但有區別。
1.below表示“在…之下”，“在…的下遊”，與介詞above相對應，常指在某物體之下，但不壹定在該物的正下方。例如：
Some parts of the country are below sea level.這個國家的某些部分位於海平面之下。
He is below the average at school.他的學習成績在水準以下。
A boat is below the bridge.壹條船在橋的下面。
2.beneath表示“在…（正）下方”，“在…腳下”。這個介詞常可與below互相替換，但below較常用，beneath多用於正式文體中。例如：
Two girls are sitting beneath a tree.兩個女孩坐在樹下。
Such a thing is beneath notice.這樣的事不值得註意。
3.under表示“在…之下”，通常表示位置處於正下方，與介詞over“在…上方”相對應。例如：
Our boat went under the bridge.我們的船通過橋下。
A cat is sitting under the table.壹只貓在桌子下面。
註意：beneath壹般只表示物的位置，人們的註意力集中在物的上面，而under往往會使人將註意力首先集中在位置上，其次才是物，即突出了物上面的東西。
